About Caffeinated Recorder

Caffeinated Recorder is a simple screen recorder software intended to be used for the creation of timelapse-style videos.

If you’ve ever create digital speed-painting videos or any other sort of timelapse videos recording your computer screen, you’ll know that recording is only the easiest part of the process: Editing and rendering the video to create the timelapse is time consuming and tedious.

But why do we have to record the videos at 1x speed if we already know we will speed it up anyways? The only real reason to be doing this was because there was no easy way to record your videos at an accelerated framerate.

Well, Caffeinated Recorder fixes that problem. With this program you can record your desktop at a preset speed multiplier and your video will be ready to upload as soon as you’re done recording it. Pretty sweet, huh?

The Alternatives

Most other alternatives to recording timelapse videos use a screenshot system that still requires you to compile those screenshots at some point. That system has the extra downside of being very size-heavy, with hundreds of high quality screenshots weighting down on your harddrive.

Caffeinated Recorder, instead, just records a video and drops a bunch of frames inbetween. Simple and lightweight.

Bonus advantages

Thanks to the way Caffeinated Recorder works, there are a couple of extra advantages compared to your average screen recorder:

  • Capturing frames less often means the software is less Processor intensive
  • Saving the frames directly to disk means not clogging your RAM with gigantic temporary files
  • Saving the frames as they are captured means that if something goes terribly wrong, you won’t lose your recording files (Something that has happened to me multiple times using other recording software)
